Terminology Glossary
RaceDay Scoring Terms
- Chip Time
-
Elapsed time from when an individual participant crosses the start line to when they cross the finish line.
- Corral
-
A holding area where participants wait before being released to start.
- Dashboard
-
The main monitoring interface in RaceDay Scoring showing stream status and race activity.
- Gun Time
-
Elapsed time from the official race start signal to finish, shared by all participants.
- Raw Reads
-
Unfiltered chip detections from the timing reader, including duplicates.
- Read
-
A single chip detection event recorded by the timing system.
- Replay Stream
-
Function to re-process timing data from a file, useful for recovering missed reads.
- Scored Reads
-
Processed reads that have been matched to participants and deduplicated.
- Stream
-
A connection to a timing data source in RaceDay Scoring.
- Timing Location
-
A physical point where times are captured (Start, Finish, Split).
- Wave
-
A group of participants who start together at a scheduled time.
Time Machine Terms
- Inhibit
-
A function to temporarily disable chip reading.
- LCD Status Display
-
Front panel screen showing network, logging, and system status.
- Receive Loop
-
Connection for the antenna that detects chips.
- Tag Activity Indicator
-
Light that flashes when a chip is detected.
- Transmit Loop
-
Connection for the antenna that activates chips.
Chip Timing Terms
- RFID
-
Radio-Frequency Identification - technology used in timing chips.
- Chip ID
-
Unique identifier programmed into each timing chip.
- Test Tag
-
Specially programmed chip for system verification that does not appear as a participant.
- Timing Antenna
-
Antenna that detects timing chips as participants cross the timing line. Common configurations include:
-
Side antennas - Positioned alongside the course at ground level
-
Overhead antennas - Mounted on a truss or rigid arch above the timing line
-
- Timing Line
-
The point where timing is captured, defined by the antenna field coverage.
